Editor's Comments:
I met Cindy Woodsmall at an ACFW conference a few years ago. She was new to writing and unsure of herself and her abilities. I saw talent and potential in her writing and offered to mentor her. She was an absolute delight to work with, and we became close friends. I loved watching her skills sharpen as well as getting to know this wonderful, sweet, humble, God-loving woman.
Before I knew it, Cindy not only had a contract, she had a three-book series contract. With WaterBrook, no less. The first book, When the Heart Cries, came out in 2006 to much acclaim and became a best seller on many lists throughout the US and Canada. Her second book, When the Morning Comes, hit the New York Times extended list along with other best-seller lists. Her third book, When the Soul Mends, hit the number thirteen spot on the New York Times best-sellers list.
I couldn't be more thrilled for her!
Andrea Burns, a reviewer with Christian Book Previews, said of When the Heart Cries, "The story is very well written, and the fact that it is Woodsmall's first novel is surprising and difficult to believe."
In an interview on Novel Journey, Cindy was asked, "What's the worst piece of writing advice you've ever received?" Her answer: "'Freelance editors will steal your voice.' That may be true of some. ... But Kathy Ide caused me to find my voice. Even now, if I can't find my voice, I return to her and ask, 'What am I doing wrong in this chapter or scene?'"
